‘Doctor Sleep’ to Dominate Box Office With $25M U.S. Debut | THR News

– With the box office race
coming up this weekend with multiple openings, it looks like Warner
Brothers’ R-rated horror pic, Doctor Sleep, is expected
to come out on top. A sequel to Stephen King’s The Shining, and opening 39 years after
that film hit theaters, Doctor Sleep, an adaptation
of King’s 2013 novel of the same name, is set
decades after the events of The Shining and
follows a grown-up Danny, played by Ewan McGregor, as he grapples with his psychic abilities and the trauma of the past. But the R-rated horror thriller isn’t the only fresh
offering to hit theaters over Veterans’ Day weekend. The holiday-themed romantic
comedy, Last Christmas, is also coming out and tracking shows the film
opening in the mid teens. But the pic could over-perform. From Universal and inspired
by the George Michael song of the same name, Last
Christmas stars Emilia Clarke as a troubled artist whose
misfortunes start to change when a young man, played by Henry Golding, begins appearing in her life. The movie also stars Emma
Thompson and Michelle Yeoh. Another weekend offering
timed for Veterans’ Day is Roland Emmerich’s big budget
World War II epic, Midway. The film is currently tracking to launch in the low to mid teens. The $100 million indie
stars Patrick Wilson, Woody Harrelson, and
Nick Jonas, among others. The fourth new release of the weekend which is Paramount and Molded
Media’s PG family friendly Playing with Fire, starring John Cena and Keegan-Michael Key, among others, is about a group of fire fighters facing their most challenging
job yet, babysitting. And finally, at the specialty box office, Amazon Studios opens the
critically acclaimed Honey Boy, an award season contender
written by and starring Shia LaBeouf in select theaters. For more box office updates,
