‘Joker’ Set to Top Box Office With $40M-Plus Second Weekend Over ‘Gemini Man’ | THR News

(maniacal laughing) – “Joker” is laughing it’s way
to the top of the box office for it’s second weekend outing. After debuting to an October best, $96 million last weekend in North America, Todd Phillips’ “Joker” is
pacing to earn $40 million or more this weekend. The film starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Batman anti-hero
has already cleared $300 million globally by
mid-week since its debut. Meanwhile, two offerings
dropping this weekend, “Gemini Man” starring Will Smith and early Halloween
entry “The Addams Family” could be battling it out for
the number two box office spot. “Gemini Man” is tracking to open in the mid-$20 million range domestically, but it’s likely to be
hit with poor reviews considering its current
Rotten Tomato score of 30%. Meanwhile, MGM-CGN made
of “The Addams Family” featuring a voice cast
lead by Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe
Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler,
Allison Janney, Elsie Fisher, and Snoop Dogg will
appeal to the family crowd and is also tracking to
a similar mid-$20 million domestic debut. The PG movie was originally set
to open closer to Halloween, but it’s release date was
pushed up to avoid a showdown with Disney’s “Maleficent:
Mistress of Evil” after the latter title
moved to October 18. The weekend’s third new
nationwide offering is “Jexi” written and directed by
Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, known for their work on “Bad
Moms” and “The Hangover”. The film stars Adam
Devine, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Pena, Rose Byrne, Justin Hartley, and Wanda Sykes among others. All right, for more box office
updates, head to THR.com, and until next time for “The
